Hanging Garden is a newly built rooftop in Milan that has been transformed into a 90 sqm urban hanging garden. The project is the result of a collaboration with an architecture firm and centers on a specific concept: integrating lush greenery, designer furnishings, and custom-built structures into a cohesive, natural, and functional space.
The terrace is organized into two main areas. The lounge area is sheltered by a bioclimatic pergola made of anthracite aluminum with motorized adjustable slats, designed to modulate light and shade and make the space livable from spring through fall. The dining area, which is more open, completes the space with a round table and chairs made of nautical rope.
Along the perimeter, the custom-made èLUNAPIENA aluminum planters define the rooftop’s boundaries and create a continuous green frame. Some, crafted in bright blue, introduce a distinctive color accent that adds character to the composition and complements the anthracite finishes of the pergola and outdoor sideboards.
The vegetation alternates between grasses such as miscanthus and pink pennisetum, paniculata hydrangeas, loropetalum, begonias, and seasonal flowering shrubs. The result is a vibrant green space that changes in color and volume throughout the year, protecting privacy and evoking the sensation of a garden suspended above Milan.
Under the pergola, the Varaschin furniture creates an elegant and relaxed lounge area: a sofa, armchairs in sand-white nautical rope, light gray cushions, round side tables with ceramic/stoneware tops, and a gray outdoor rug. Rounding out the design, the custom-made èLUNAPIENA sideboards in dark anthracite aluminum, with powdery light blue-gray doors and an integrated countertop, provide storage and a surface for the service area.
The light stone-effect porcelain stoneware flooring, already present in the new construction, serves as a neutral backdrop for the project. Hanging Garden thus becomes an intimate and well-organized rooftop in Milan, where greenery, a bioclimatic pergola, and custom solutions come together to create an urban outdoor space to be enjoyed naturally.
