Private rooftop

A green island that stands out in the urban fabric

The Maple is a Milanese rooftop that, thanks to the expertise and craftsmanship of èLUNAPIENA, has been transformed into a true urban rooftop garden with a strong visual identity. The project is based on the bold chromatic contrast between the custom-made furniture and planters and the bright green of the synthetic turf.

The Maple covers an area of approximately 200 sqm, divided into three areas, each with its own visual identity but united by a single material language.

The dining area is covered by the BT Group bioclimatic pergola with motorized adjustable slats equipped with wind and rain sensors. This area is highlighted by concrete tile flooring with crushed stone, which distinguishes the dining area from the rest of the terrace and creates a solid surface for the table and rope chairs  Bizzotto.

The kitchen area is the functional heart of the project. Here, a custom-made corner outdoor kitchen èLUNAPIENA in Corten steel and painted aluminum, with a stainless steel sink and exposed faucets. It shares the same finish and design language as the perimeter planters and the storage cabinet. Designed to protect tools and furnishings during the winter months, the cabinet is custom-made and blends seamlessly into the greenery.

The lounge area extends beneath the existing wooden pergola, which was repainted and reintegrated into the project as an element evoking memory and warmth: a design choice that opts not to discard, but to enhance what was already there.

The botanical centerpiece of the project is a large Japanese red maple—which gives the project its name—whose burgundy foliage complements the Corten steel finish of the structures and custom-made planters by èLUNAPIENA. Surrounding it, ornamental banana trees, red climbing roses, and tropical plants create a botanical palette that is both exotic and Mediterranean—an unexpected combination for a Milanese rooftop. All custom planters and pots created by èLUNAPIENA are equipped with an integrated irrigation system, ensuring the plants have the perfect ecosystem to thrive year-round.

The Maple appears as a green island in the gray urban landscape thanks to the aesthetic and functional choice to cover the entire surface with Erby synthetic turf. The result is a green, lush rooftop garden in every season.

Running along the entire perimeter are WPC privacy screens by Novowood, a warm and enveloping backdrop that guarantees total privacy while still offering an unobstructed view of the city. The same WPC material is used in the canopy of the outdoor kitchen, creating material continuity between the side enclosures and the kitchen structure.

The Maple is not just a furnished terrace. It is a rooftop garden with a soul: materials that interact, greenery that endures, details that remain.
